My Wind Turbine Can Control Blade Pitch!

My Wind Turbine Can Control Blade Pitch!

Over-engineered? Maybe. Cool? Definitely! In this video, I design a wind turbine featuring variable pitch blades, powered rotation, a full weather station, and single custom motherboard to control it all!

While this project didn’t quite generate enough power to sustain itself, it certainly has the potential to. All it needs is properly designed blades that are a bit larger, and a higher gear ratio to spin the stepper motor generating the power quicker. With that, this prototype is a great demonstration piece as to how full-scale wind turbines actually operate. Is this how all small turbines should be designed? Definitely not. Simpler is better unless the efficiency gains are substantial, and the scale needs to be quite a bit larger before that holds true!
